Overview

Learn the fundamentals of project management for the construction industry, and prepare for an in-demand career, with the Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Management at Victoria University.

This certificate is designed to meet the needs of current or potential project managers in the construction industry, teaching advanced principles and techniques. On graduation, you will be able to:

  • scope projects in various contexts
  • implement effective project-management processes
  • assess and manage risk in accordance with OHS legislation
  • map, develop and improve corporate governance for project stages
  • achieve value-for-money on diverse and complex construction projects
  • apply ethical and legal requirements for contract management.

The internationally recognised A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) underpins all our teaching, and we have strong industry connections for real-world work practice.

Once you have successfully completed this course, you may be able to continue to a Graduate Diploma in Project Management.

Course structure

To attain the Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Management students will be required to complete:

- 48 credit points Core units

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of key theoretical project management frameworks and processes and apply them to a range of construction project management scenarios;  
  2. Develop an understanding of projects, the roles and responsibilities of a construction project manager, recommendations, professional decisions, and communicate with specialist and non-specialist stakeholders;  
  3. Plan, construct and manage the delivery of efficient, and effective strategies and inputs over the course of the construction process to achieve value for money on diverse and complex projects in alignment with Construction Extension to the PMBOK Guide, taking into account of social, economic, & environmental sustainability; and  
  4. Conceptualise and critically apply project risk management, make risk identification an integral component of sustainable decision-making in projects and construct a risk management plan.  

What's a unit?

A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.

Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take and optional elective units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.

Credits

Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a similar discipline
OR
Applicants with a minimum five (5) years approved work experience will be considered for admission to this course.
