We have a number of rooms that can be hired for various events, functions or meetings for University business, or for other purposes by external clients.

Our staff can help you organise events and catering both on and off-campus in Melbourne's CBD and Western suburbs.

Our facilities suit business meetings, seminars and lectures.

Please note that hire of teaching spaces is only available when the rooms are not required for academic programs.

Standard room hire

Tutorial rooms, lecture and general purpose classrooms may be booked by external clients of the University.

You can hire tutorial rooms, lecture theatres, computer labs and general purpose classrooms at all of our campuses.

They suit business meetings, seminars and lectures.

Select your room size and audiovisual services from the options available. Audiovisual support staff can advise you on how to operate the equipment. For a fee, they can also attend the event to ensure the equipment is used properly.

Our range of rooms and locations can suit a variety of purposes:

  • lecture theatres - tiered to seat 90-300 people, or non-tiered to seat 50-350 people
  • general purpose classrooms - flat-floored classrooms with movable tables and chairs to seat 20-40 people
  • computer labs - equipped with 20 computers, which include Microsoft Office
  • meeting rooms - seating for 5-40 people. Some rooms have kitchen facilities.
  • sports and fitness centres.

An extensive range of modern audiovisual equipment is included in the hire of University facilities.

Lecture theatres are fitted with the following AV (audiovisual) facilities:

  • ceiling mounted LCD Projector
  • PC with Microsoft Office and Internet access
  • custom lectern with built-in control system for all equipment
  • multi-zone DVD replay and audio CD playback
  • video replay
  • overhead projector
  • document camera
  • screen
  • white board.

An audiovisual levy of $22 (GST inclusive) is charged for all external bookings in lecture theatres equipped with a data projector.

Classrooms

Classrooms are equipped with a variety of audiovisual equipment including a white board, TV/DVD/video unit, screen, overhead projectors and a portable data projector (also available for hire - contact us for hire rates and availability).

Rooms can be hired at any one of our campuses.

Note: City Queen's Moot Court facilities are not available for hire using this mechanism, contact the staff there directly.

Security services include regular patrols of campuses and car parks in order to make our campuses safer for students, staff and campus visitors.

You might need additional security for bookings that attract over 200 people, or for bookings that fall outside of normal business hours.

If additional security is required, you will be informed of the number of security guards required and the appropriate charges.

Sir Zelman Cowen Centre facilities

Potential clients (both external and internal) can hire rooms within the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre on a casual or ad hoc basis for a wide variety of functions, including:

  • courses, lectures, seminars and workshops
  • meetings and training
  • conferences
  • book and product launches, trade shows and exhibitions
  • cocktail parties, industry breakfasts and business lunches.

The Plenary Room is the smallest room available to hire at the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre and holds up to 16 people. It is suitable for meetings and is predominantly set up in a boardroom style.

Equipment includes video monitor and white board. A laptop can be arranged upon request.

Rates for the Plenary Room

Monday to Friday 8am-8pm:

  • Half day (4-hour session): $330
  • Full day (8-hour session): $440

Plus administration fee $110. 

Saturday and Sunday:

  • Half day (4-hour session): $770
  • Full day (8-hour session): $990

Plus administration fee $110.

Staffing and Security are also required on weekends on campus for the duration of the function and is charged at $120 per hour on Saturday and $150 per hour on Sundays.

The Seminar Room holds up to 24 people classroom or boardroom style, or 28 people theatre style. It is suitable for seminars, workshops, training or other functions. The room can be arranged to suit your needs.

Equipment includes a whiteboard and in-built data projector. A laptop can be supplied if required.

Monday to Friday 8am-8pm:

  • Half day (4-hour session): $385
  • Full day (8-hour session): $495

Plus administration fee $110. 

Saturday and Sunday:

  • Half day (4-hour session): $770
  • Full day (8-hour session): $990

The Phillips Common Room holds up to 46 people.

The room is ideal for for functions such as corporate sit-down meals, lunches, cocktail parties and book launches.

  • Full day (8-hour session): $440

Saturday and Sunday:

Our industrial-sized kitchen is suitable for both internal and external catering. It has stainless steel appliances and bench tops, microwave, dishwasher plus standalone fridge and freezer.

Catering is also available by arrangement and a quote can be obtained from our preferred caterers. Below are some indicative fees.

  • Tea and coffee: $9.90 per person (minimum of 10 people)
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits: $13.20 per person (minimum of 10 people)
