Applying to study at university or TAFE can seem overwhelming, but at VU we keep the admissions process as simple as possible.

VU is one of only six universities in Australia that offers both TAFE and university courses - from Certificate courses through to Masters and PhDs. You can begin your studies at VU Polytechnic and complete a TAFE qualification; and, if you choose to pathway to a tertiary degree, you will receive recognition for prior learning.

We know that there is more than one way to succeed at learning and our admissions approach reflects that. If you didn’t achieve the ATAR you’d hoped for, this won’t limit the future success you can achieve in your studies and career.

Admissions policy

Admission categories

You must meet the minimum academic entry requirements in order to be eligible for admission into your chosen course.

Course-specific requirements can be found in both VU's course search and the VTAC Course Search.

If you have completed your Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), an Australian or overseas equivalent, or an International Baccalaureate (IB) in the last two years, you must meet any course prerequisites.

Courses may also list ATAR as the basis for selection; you can find the previous year's data for these courses in the ATAR information set.

Some undergraduate courses at Victoria University may also require a minimum ATAR and other selection criteria to be met. See the ATAR profile to get an idea of previous intakes.

In this category, if you are not applying with a completed qualification, you must have completed some higher education study. Some courses require at least two completed units, but most require at least six months of continuous study, or four units of completed study in an undergraduate degree or higher qualification. Check individual course pages for detailed admission criteria.

You must also meet the course-specific eligibility criteria of the relevant course you are applying to.

To be considered, you should have satisfactorily completed an accredited award at Diploma or above at an Australian Registered Training Organisation. Many Victoria University courses will accept a completed Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or a related discipline. Check course pages for detailed admission criteria.

You must also meet the course-specific eligibility criteria of the relevant course you are applying to.

If you do not have any formal academic history, you may be considered on the basis of other work or life experiences. Check your course page for specific work and life experience admission criteria.

Enrolment

Find out more about how to enrol as a domestic student after you receive your course offer. If you receive an offer directly from VU or via VTAC, you can accept it and enrol online. Accept your offer by clicking the link in your offer email, logging into MYVU Portal and enrolling online (for undergraduate courses).

If you're enrolling in a TAFE course, you'll be invited to attend an enrolment session in person.

Credit (advanced standing)

Credit is used to recognise your prior learning or work and life experience. It reduces the number of units that you have to complete in your chosen course at VU.

If you’re applying directly to VU via our Admissions Centre and would like to apply for credit as part of your course application, you will be prompted during the process to complete and upload an application for credit (advanced standing) along with the required supporting documentation.
