This course is offered as both a traineeship or non-traineeship. If you undertake a traineeship, you must be employed as a trainee in the hospitality industry.

You'll learn in the state-of-the art Footscray Nicholson hospitality training centre on modern equipment including:
- three commercial kitchens with the latest cooking equipment
- two demonstration kitchens
- a training bar
- a 150-seat training restaurant, VenU.
VenU restaurant was awarded best training restaurant in Victoria at the Restaurant and Catering awards.

This course is part of VU's School for the Visitor Economy - a cross-university school providing qualified graduates to Victoria's rapidly expanding tourism and hospitality sectors.

This course is nationally recognised training.
Course structure
The course structure comprises the following core and elective units. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback.
To be awarded the SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality, a student must successfully complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency, comprising of:
* six (6) core units, and;
* nine (9) elective units, of which:

one (1) unit must be from Group A

six (6) units must be from Group B

two (2) units can be from Group B, Group C, elsewhere in the SIT Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.The selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

Learning outcomes
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have a range of well-developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. As part of the application process, applicants must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and undertake a literacy and numeracy (LN) assessment to determine suitability for admission.
Local admission requirements for Traineeship applicants:

must have an active Epsilon number prior to commencing the course
- Where the apprentice or trainee is under the age of 18, an employer sign off may be required.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You may be able to complete your qualification sooner through formal recognition of your existing skills. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
