Overview

Prepare for success in the Australian Medical Council (AMC) clinical exam required for overseas-trained doctors to practise medicine in Australia, with the Bridging Course in Clinical Practice For International Medical Graduates at Victoria University.

Developed by Health Education Australia Limited (HEAL, formerly VMPF) in partnership with Victoria University, this course covers requirements of the AMC for overseas qualified doctors whose medical qualifications are not yet recognised in Australia.

If you have passed the first AMC exam (multiple choice questions), this course will help you to prepare for the second phase of medical registration – the clinical examination.

Learn to apply your medical qualifications within the Australian health system. You'll practise patient care in an Australian context through a range of methods, including:

  • communication classes, focused on patient–doctor interactions within Australian cultural and legal frameworks
  • role-playing for using Australian medical reference material in a treatment setting
  • hospital placements with tutorials and lectures from medically qualified instructors.

HEAL has offered clinical bridging courses since 1981, and there are very few courses of equal quality.

As well as practical learning, you'll revise your diagnostic, management and consulting theory in relation to surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, general practice, paediatrics and psychiatry as practised in the Australian health system.
