This unit (HSC0002) will provide students with instruction and practice in culturally appropriate communication with patients. Emphasis will be placed upon creating a rapport through engendering trust and shared decision making through verbal and non-verbal communication. Integral to this is explaining diagnoses and management care in clear and explicit lay language. At a macro level, students will be taught how to structure a cohesive medical consultation while being flexible through practising active listening and responding to patient concerns and queries.
