Overview

Become an expert on the impact of technology on the workplace, with a Certificate III in Emerging Technologies 22589VIC from Victoria University Polytechnic.

As part of your studies, you'll learn how to:

  • solve workplace challenges
  • develop a career plan for technology and digital futures
  • explore evolving technology and its impact on jobs.

You will also have the opportunity to specialise in an emerging stream, such as game design, product design and 3D printing.

Once you’ve completed the Certificate III in Emerging Technologies 22589VIC, you’ll have the necessary skills and qualifications to pursue a career in the:

  • design of interactive digital media components
  • development of interactive games
  • maintenance and troubleshooting solutions for three-dimensional (3D) printing.

Course structure

To be awarded the 22589VIC Certificate III in Emerging Technologies, 14 units must be completed comprising:
- 6 core units
- 8 elective units, of which:
A minimum of two full streams are to be selected as follows:
Two (2) Emerging Streams:
- Game Design
- Design Thinking and Product Design
And where the 2 streams selected contain less than the 8 elective units required:
Must select up to 2 elective units that have been designed for career exploration.
These have been drawn from the streams and Victoria University has selected the following units from the list:
- VU23142 Investigate applications for smart cities technology
- VU23164 Explore and prepare for 3D printing in industry

VU Polytechnic delivers the electives listed in the ‘course structure and units’ below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

The 22589VIC Certificate III in Emerging Technologies is consistent with AQF Level 3 requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework and enables learners to explore industry career options, prepare for further education and training, or gain employment.

Learners will develop transferrable enterprise and technical skills applicable across a range of industry, business and community contexts. They will:
- select, adapt and apply a range of human enterprise skills across a range of work contexts
- demonstrate technical skills to undertake routine and some non-routine tasks across a range of work contexts
- participate in collaborative teams to produce solutions using current and evolving technology applications
- explore the application of enterprise technologies in varied contexts to inform career and further educational choices.

This course provides students with technical skills and knowledge for emerging technology in game design and design thinking and product design.

Students who enrol in a:

  • government subsidised place pay subsidised tuition fees (the government contributes the rest), and may be required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee along with any material fees
  • full fee-paying place pay the full fee tuition rate (which includes Student Services and Amenities Fee and any material fees).

VDSS applicants must complete to determine suitability:
- Pre-training Review (PTR)
The suitability, literacy and numeracy levels of applicants will be assessed through consultation with the relevant secondary school.
