Overview

Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel to create effective and useful spreadsheets, with this professional-development short course at Victoria University Polytechnic.

This introductory Excel course is suited to professionals from a variety of workplaces and organisations. You'll learn better manage your role responsibilities, or aim for a promotion with time-saving tips to organise data or calculate costs.

Delivered over half a day, this 4-hour online workshop is led by an expert facilitator. It will give you a foundational overview of Excel that you can immediately apply in your workplace. 

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to plan and create basic spreadsheets, using formulas to perform simple calculations and organise data.

Learning outcomes

This workshop will provide participants with a foundational understanding of Microsoft Excel introductory/beginner level. It is anticipated that the participants will be existing workers with a range of experiences in diverse workplace contexts to better manage their current role responsibilities or to expand their skill set to access employment or promotion.

The program is delivered over half day (4 hourly) workshop via an online platform, facilitator led delivery will provide an overview of platform being utilised and expectations of participation whilst ensuring any participant technology issues are addressed. This course will be facilitated via webinar or zoom scheduled times, including short videos, and electronic resources provided to participants and involves group discussions to support the key principles related to understanding Microsoft Excel at an introductory / beginner level.

At the completion of the workshop participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate and discuss workstation ergonomics while working with Excel

• Understand Microsoft Excel basic features

• Plan and create basic spreadsheets and determine layout requirements

• Enter, check and amend data in Excel (Review the use of Excel Ribbon & tasks within each section)

• Write simple formulas in Excel (Test and check their function)

There is no specific admission requirement.

Participants will need access to a computer with an operational version of Microsoft Excel installed on their computer. The program requires participants to have basic level of computer skills to access and operate the online learning software to navigate a webpage and find information, attend a webinar using zoom or webex for online delivery. If the course is being delivered face-to-face onsite, computer access is not required.
