Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Abstract data requirements into data models using entity-relationship diagram and relational data model and design relational databases;  
  2. Formulate efficient SQL queries to store, manipulate and transform data into useful information to users;  
  3. Assess and rationalise database design with functional dependencies and normal forms;  
  4. Propose and devise query optimisation, transaction and security management for relational database management systems; and  
  5. Exhibit mastery of theoretical knowledge and practical skills relating to the Relational Data Model and Relational Database Management Systems.
