This unit (APC6091) will provide an introduction to the theory and practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). Students will gain an understanding of the stages and processes of CBT. They will gain experience in the development and application of CBT techniques, including the application of cognitive behavioural formulation and treatment planning in relation to mood and affective presentations across a range of client groups. The completion of this unit is necessary to commence placement at the Victoria University psychology clinic.

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Appraise the principles and processes of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy theories and interventions;  
  2. Formulate client presentation from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy perspective across diverse client groups;  
  3. Justify a treatment plan based on a review of professional literature that examines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy practices; and  
  4. Exemplify and apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy intervention skills.
