This unit (SSM3101) provides the opportunity through the use of integrated field based practicum to develop ethical understanding of current social and environmental issue and trends. This is done through applying a range of place based learning and leadership frameworks and analysing their own environmental and leadership understanding. The impact of their new understanding will be considered on both local and global levels. Feedback is provided to students both formally and informally via assessment, peer and teacher discussion.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Analyse their personal relationship with urban and non-urban environments with responsibility and accountability;  
  2. Critically evaluate the breadth of human relationships and their connections with urban and non-urban environments in Australia and globally;  
  3. Investigate ecological relationships within different environments;  
  4. Resolve complex problems and adapt understandings of environmental interpretation in proposed solutions; and  
  5. Identify different ecological cycles and the intricacies of balancing individual and public good.
