This unit (SSI6004) in Strategic Planning and Management in Sport Business will introduce various strategic management concepts and analytical tools to organisational challenges and issues in sport businesses. Students will be introduced to the Strategy in Action methodology, which is a contemporary approach to developing and implementing strategy in an increasingly dynamic and disruptive business environment. The unit works towards identifying the strategic direction(s) that the organization can take. Through various 'real life' assessment tasks students will be challenged to identify Strategy in Action ways forward for the sport organisation.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Use the Strategy in Action framework to argue and justify how to make short-term and long-term strategic decisions considering the competitive environment that the organisation operates in  
  2. Consider various courses of strategic action for (different cases of) organisations and argue in favour or against the merit of such actions  
  3. Identify a range of strategic analysis and planning tools and successfully apply and use them in the right context  
  4. Analyse and research strategic challenges of sport businesses in a wide variety of organizational settings and be able to critically reflect on strategic direction and required change
