This unit (NNM6001) regarding generation system fundamentals explains how power is generated, with a special emphasis on Alternative Renewable Energy generation and analysis including everyday examples and illustrations. The unit provides an overview of generation systems, followed by details on Alternative Energy Systems and introduces students to unconventional energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass and fuel cells. Students will be introduced to problems facing the electricity supply industries in Australia and alternative energy choices. Furthermore, the unit focuses on environmental and economic advantages of using alternative energy generation technologies, the concept of sustainability, and energy efficiency in order to provide the basis for alternative energy systems. This unit also covers conventional energy systems and greenhouse effect, evaluation and feasibility studies of solar energy, wind energy, fuel cells, hydrogen generation, bio-fuel, tidal and geothermal systems, nuclear energy, analysis and modelling of above systems, economic analysis of above systems, design of hybrid systems and integration.
