This unit (NIT5110) presents an overview of computer networking systems, laying the foundation for more advanced wired and wireless networking units in the course. It includes a perspective on the evolution of networking systems and their future. Topics include: computer networks and the Internet, seven-layer OSI Model, network design, sub-networking, routing, switching, IPv6, network implementation with CISCO routers and switches, simulators, and etc. This knowledge and skills will be applied to analyse, evaluate, design and develop computer networks based on real world scenarios.
