This unit (NBC2002) is designed to provide students with understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC) and associated legislation when applied to buildings up to three storeys and not more than 2000 square meters. Students will learn about statutory controls and assessment; enforcement proceedings; how occupational health and safety, environmental and heritage legislation interact with the Building Legislation; and the application of the principles of performance-based legislations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Interpret and apply the National Construction Code (NCC) for buildings upto three storeys;  
  2. Judge design documentation for compliance with building legislation including Workplace Health and Safety, and Disability Discrimination laws, and Australian Standards;  
  3. Interpret and apply the enforcement provisions under current building legislation;  
  4. Exemplify effective communication with a range of skilled professionals, including architects, builders and engineers; and  
  5. Employ sound and safe practices in relation to permits and inspections on site.
