Maximum manual lifting weight is limited to Safe Work Australia recommendations. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - following work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices; - assessing the risks associated with lifting materials manually and determining the most appropriate technique, and; - selecting and using the appropriate equipment to move/shift materials ensuring safety of personnel and security of material.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - safe work practices and procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE); - manual handling techniques, including individual or team lifting; - appropriate equipment associated with move/shift materials; - hazards of incorrect procedures, and; - Safe Work Australia standards for manual handling.
