This unit (HLTINF004) describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and monitor infection prevention and control systems and procedures in work contexts where health and personal care services are provided. This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibilities for infection prevention and control in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

Assessment
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
- developed compliant infection prevention and control systems and procedures for at least 1 work environment:
- accessed and analysed compliance and workplace information;
- developed and documented systems and procedures;
- communicated responsibilities to relevant people, and;
- monitored infection prevention and control systems and procedures for at least 1 work environment and responded to problems.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge:
- key features of infection prevention and control regulation and guidelines and compliance requirements;
- principles and processes of planning;
- systems and procedures needed to meet compliance and quality requirements for infection prevention and control;
- links between infection prevention and control systems and other management systems, and;
- sustainability considerations for development of infection prevention and control systems and procedures.
