This capstone unit will build on HHN3601 considering the principles and practice of designing, implementing, managing and evaluating health promotion programs/interventions in the community. Underpinning theory and frameworks for health program and intervention planning and evaluation will be explored and applied to the practical experience in the delivery of nutrition education. Students will work in teams to plan, deliver and evaluate community food and nutrition education interventions.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Contextualise and articulate the determinants of health, food and nutrition in a diverse population or community, and integrate available evidence related to nutritional status;  
  2. Design and deliver appropriate nutrition education intervention for specific target populations, drawing on published policies and strategies;  
  3. Evaluate and reflect on the implemented intervention using evidence based public health nutrition approaches; and  
  4. Apply professional, technical, cultural and interpersonal knowledge and skills for successful collaboration with peers on the production of a key nutrition message for contemporary and diverse audiences.

The practicum is a hurdle requirement and students must actively participate in a minimum of 75% of the intervention activities with community groups. Professional interactions with peers and the general public are assessed only in this task.
