Preservice teachers will undertake an extended period of professional experience that is the final preparation to enter the teaching profession as activist and critical teachers that enact the broad justice principles of social inclusion and respecting difference. Preservice teachers will undertake 30 days of professional experience with a qualified childhood teacher mentor within an early childhood setting, working collaboratively with staff, families and the community. Preservice teachers will articulate and connect their philosophical and theoretical standpoints to generate illustrations of practice in the domains of teaching; Professional, knowledge, professional practice and professional engagement.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Articulate knowledge, practice and engagement at Graduate level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.  
  2. Infer and conceptually map philosophical, theoretical and contemporary educational perspectives identifying self-situated practice.  
  3. Devise curriculum artefacts and objects that illustrate professional practice within the 3 domains of teaching (Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice, Professional Engagement).  
  4. Design illustrations of practice that demonstrate graduate competencies for employment opportunities.
