This unit (CHCCCS012) describes the skills and knowledge required to apply bed making and cleaning practices to a range of beds to ensure that people can safely occupy a clean bed. This unit applies to workers in a range of settings where beds may be occupied or unoccupied. Where beds in an acute setting are occupied, bed making will usually be performed in an assisting role or under the supervision of an appropriate health professional according to organisation policy. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Assessment

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce and extend knowledge and skill competence within set and controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes and performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines. Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills: - bed linen items; - organisation policies and procedures, and; - clinical waste disposal, including waste minimisation, environmental responsibility and sustainable practice issues.Students will also be expected to demonstrate the following knowledge: - use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources.
