This unit (BMO2000) is designed for the Bachelor of Business with a specialisation in Human Resource Management. Human resource management introduces the principal activities that make up the human resource function in organisations. The students will investigate the link between human resource management practices and organisational performance. Topics covered include: HRM in Australia; ethical and legal foundations of HRM; workforce planning, job analysis and design; staffing the workplace; performance development and review, and performance management systems; rewards management and employee health and safety.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Describe HRM concepts, theories and models as supporting HRM in relation to corporate and employee needs;  
  2. Explain and recommend effective HR strategies and practices to provide solutions to emerging workplace issues;  
  3. Design ethical, socially and culturally responsible practices to people management problems;  
  4. Critically analyse HRM issues in relation to specific cases, and effectively communicate in writing and orally HRM recommendations; and  
  5. Develop competency in working in collaborative and various business contexts.
