This unit (ASS3009) of study is framed around classical and contemporary social theory as applied to law and order. Attention is given to how social life and law are intertwined, with a focus on the relationship between justice and crime from social and cultural perspectives. Students will have an opportunity to explore in-depth, particular areas of justice, such as the law and minority groups, Indigenous Australians, and contemporary issues, for example, surveillance, policing, corporate crimes, court proceedings, victimology, and explanations of the causes of crime.
