This unit (ASP2010) provides an introduction to key historical events and concepts relating to international politics. It is designed to help students understand the origins of the political systems in which we live today, and to recognise the importance of political science as a means of investigating and evaluating political structures and practices at local, national, regional and global levels. We examine the origins of nation-states, corporations, and key international and non-governmental organisations, discussing how, where, when and why these political forms emerged and why they have persisted and proliferated.
