The overall goal of this unit is to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, places and positionalities and standpoints in education. Through acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia, this unit aims to develop a deeper understanding of the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples cultures, histories and languages of to promote reconciliation.
This unit (AEK1006) aims to develop an awareness of how to engage with Indigenous Studies and resources and how to apply them appropriately in educational environments. This unit will increase your awareness of how policies and ongoing colonialism impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. This will be done by exploring elements of Humanities and engaging with content and place. This includes understanding key theories leading to an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders self-determination and sovereignty.
