This unit (ACO1011) introduces technical, interpretive and self-evaluation skills in music practice. Students are assisted in evaluating their technical, interpretative and improvisation skills. Students are instructed in a range of underpinning knowledge in general musicianship. Students are guided in setting goals, strategies, exercises and practice routines. A program of musical works is selected to present technical, improvisational and interpretive challenges. Students are introduced to the concept of functional music theory. Students are introduced to the safe operation of live music sound reinforcement and key elements of essential music software. Students are introduced to basic academic skills required for understanding the nature of musicology.
