An honours degree in science builds on your bachelor degree with a fourth year focused on a specialist research thesis. It presents the chance to pursue a topic of personal interest and career aspiration, in biomedicine, environmental sciences, food sciences, nursing, midwifery, sport science, exercise science, and other related areas.

Course structure
To attain the Bachelor of Science (Honours) students are required to complete 96 credit points consisting of two 48cp units, RBM4003 Science Honours 1and RBM4002 Science Honours 2.
Science Honours 1 is weighted 35% and Science Honours 2 is weighted 65% of the overall GPA grade for the Science Honours course. A single, final mark and grade is awarded at the completion of the course, with the grade allocated to the RBM4004 Science Honours 2 unit. The weighting aligns with the requirement for application and entry to many doctoral programs which require the thesis to form more than 50% of the Honours grade.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

What's a unit?
A unit or 'subject' is the actual class you'll attend in the process of completing a course.
Most courses have a mixture of compulsory 'core' units that you need to take and optional elective units that you can choose to take based on your area of interest, expertise or experience.
Credits
Each unit is worth a set amount of study credits based on the amount of time you study. Generally, 1 credit is equal to 1 hour of study per week.

Why is ATAR not applicable?
You will not need an ATAR score to meet the admission requirements for this course. Only the successful completion of your secondary school studies, and any additional prerequisites. Our courses and support programs are designed to prepare students from diverse cultures for success, regardless of their prior experience, ATAR, age, socioeconomic or educational background.
Applicants with vocational education and training (VET/TAFE) study
This information is for people who have completed an accredited award at an Australian Registered Training Organisation.

Applicants with higher education study
This information is for people whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course.
Admission criteria
Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with major studies in a relevant discipline. These disciplines include Biomedical Sciences, Built Environment, Dermal Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition, Osteopathy, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Science, Sport and Exercise Sciences.
PLUS
Have achieved an average mark of at least 65 (Credit) or equivalent in their final year of undergraduate degree study. An applicant will ideally have attained a Distinction (D) or High Distinction (HD) in units of study related to the intended discipline of Honours study.
Applicants with work & life experience
This information is for applicants who left secondary school more than two years ago and who have not undertaken VET or higher education study since then.

Admission into the Honours course will normally occur not more than two years after the completion of the Bachelor degree.
