In this unit, Linear Statistical Models, students are introduced to simple and multiple linear regression models, general linear models with categorical data, - simple experimental designs and simple logistic regression models for binary response. Students will learn how to build, diagnose and validate linear statistical models. Statistical software package from Excel will be used to practise the techniques covered in this unit. This is a unit that will allow students to undertake a qualification to become a registered teacher.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
  1. Apply key probability concepts to linear models in statistical analysis;
  2. Create general linear regression models that produce binary responses;
  3. Assess and diagnose general linear regression models by various numerical and graphical tools; and
  4. Design simple experimental statistical models that predict outcomes.
