This mathematics unit extends and complements the concepts and skills in Algebra and Calculus attained in NEF1105. Students will be introduced to matrices and how they are used to solve systems of equations, which are important in Engineering. An introduction to statistics (descriptive and bivariate) and probability will be made, utilising MS Excel. An introduction to the concept of a complex number will made and various arithmetic calculations. Students will extend their concepts and skills of calculus (differentiation and integration) by utilising applications in Engineering; this will include partial differentiation, integration by substitution and parts and various applications of calculus. An introduction to various types of first and second order differential equations will also be made. Students will use various calculators (for example; Scientific, Graphics, MS Excel, Desmos, etc) in assessing the successful completion of learning activities and assessments.
