Course structure

To be award the 22682VIC Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Pre-vocational), 15 units must be completed consisting of:
- 13 core units
- 2 elective units of which:
- up to 2 electives can be drawn from the listed units in the course curriculum
- a maximum of 1 elective can be replaced with another training package or accredited course unit provided it is consistent with the AQF level and outcomes of this course.

VU Polytechnic delivers the electives listed in the ‘course structure and units’ below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, graduate pathways and/or student and teacher feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

This course provides participates with the following educational and vocational outcomes to:
- make an informed choice regarding study pathways and employment opportunities for a career in the electrotechnology industry
- demonstrate a basic theoretical knowledge of wired and wireless electrical systems including telecommunications refrigeration and air-conditioning
- apply safe work practices in an electrotechnology industry work environment
- safely and correctly use a range of hand tools and basic test equipment commonly used in the electrotechnology industry
- apply fabrication and assembly techniques together with hard wiring, cabling for basic extra low voltage (ELV) installations
- set up and program a basic wireless electrotechnology system
- contribute as a team member to each build stage of an electrotechnology project
- provide first aid
