Open Access computer labs are available to all VU staff and students. Some machines offer internet access for educational purposes. Campus libraries also have computers available during opening hours.

Access VU systems

Your VU username and password provides you access to various University systems and applications including:

  • MyVU
  • VU Collaborate
  • WiFi
  • Office 365

You can access most VU systems by logging in with your VU account:

For students:

  • Username: s <student number>@live.vu.edu.au (e.g. s0000000@live.vu.edu.au)
  • Your initial password: Temp <date of birth in DDMMYYYY format> e.g. Temp12031976 (Please note 'Temp' has a capital T)

For staff:

  • Username: e <staff number>@vu.edu.au (e.g. e0000000@vu.edu.au)
  • Your initial password: Temp <date of birth in DDMMYYYY format> e.g. Temp12031976 (Please note 'Temp' has a capital T)

When you log in for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password.

Once you change your password, it automatically changes your password for all the other systems and applications that use your VU account, including your email.

To change your password or setup password retrieval options, log in to MyVU.

If this is the first time your are logging on, you will be prompted to change your password. Enter your initial (temporary) password and then enter a new password.

  • Click the My Account icon in the top right hand corner of the page.
  • Select Change password to open the Change password view.
  • Set up your password reset options. If you forget your password in the future, you will be asked which option (from those you have nominated) you would like to use. This means you can reset your password off site through MyVU and continue accessing your VU email and other VU services.

If you have previously nominated password reset options, you can click on the 'Forgot password?' link on the MyVU log in page to reset your password. Click on the chat icon in the MyVU log in page if you need help resetting your password or have forgotten your student number.

Alternatively, you can contact the Student Contact Centre or IT Customer Support for assistance to manually reset your password.

Your password will need to be at least eight (8) characters long and made up of the following:

  • At least 1 English uppercase character (A through Z)
  • At least 1 English lowercase character (a through z)
  • At least 1 numeral (0 through 9)
  • or a non-alphabetic characters (such as !, $, #, %).

When choosing a password, ensure you don't use any dictionary words or your own name or date of birth. VU provides a range of information and resources to help you choose a secure password.
