The Student Services and Amenities Fees (SSAF) at Victoria University (VU) is charged in accordance with the Higher Education Support Act 2003 and the Administration Guidelines made under the Act. Revenue from the fee is spent in accordance with the Act and only on services and amenities allowable under the guidelines.

SSAF is managed by the University's Students portfolio, led by the Chief Student Officer, who oversees the management and governance of SSAF.

We value students as partners of VU and welcome input into our discussions, planning and decision making.

SSAF Consultative Committee

The SSAF Consultative Committee oversees the governance, management and implementation of SSAF-funded initiatives, to make sure that your SSAF is used responsibly.

The Committee meets every two months to review the following:

The Committee consists of an equal number of students and staff from areas that receive SSAF funding, and is chaired by the Director, Student Services. See the SSAF Consultative Committee Terms of Reference for the current list of representatives.

Positions are open to all VU Polytechnic and VU students who would like to make recommendations and share their experiences.

If you're interested in joining the Committee:

  1. read the SSAF Consultative Committee terms of reference
  2. email ssaf@vu.edu.au with the following information:
    • your name
    • your course
    • your expected completion date
    • a brief statement (300 words maximum) of why you would be a good student representative.

We gather feedback through different channels, such as focus groups, surveys, consultative forums, our Student Leadership Council, social media, meetings with student representatives and our students as staff program.

Past survey results

In September 2022 VU students were invited by email to take part in the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) survey. In total, 23,190 invitations were emailed. The survey remained open for just over two weeks.

In response to past survey results we have:

  • upgraded equipment in student kitchens across the Victorian campuses and refurbished the kitchen in Building M, Footscray Park
  • provided additional wellbeing supports to students including the sexual assault and family violence counselling and free and confidential legal advice
  • increased the range of food and drink retailers on or near all campuses
  • provided a new parenting space at our Queen Street building and upgraded our parenting spaces and facilities at our Footscray Park Campus
  • increased awareness of and and access to the careers and employability services available to you – VU's Learning Hubs offer workshops, drop-in sessions and advice on careers, employability and general academic support.
