This postgraduate qualification in accounting offers specialist knowledge and skills and a deep understanding of sustainability issues and global accounting trends.

During your study, you will undertake these specialist activities to graduate well-prepared for a senior accounting position:

You may be eligible to apply for accreditation with Chartered Accountants - Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) as long as you have successfully completed BLO5539 - Australian income Tax Law and Practice. Please note that for CA ANZ accreditation, exemption for BEO6501 - Quantitative Analysis as an integrated unit applies only if BLO5539 - Australian income tax law and practice is completed successfully in your BMAK study. To attain the Master of Accounting, students will be required to complete 192 credit points consisting of:

  • 48 credit points college core units
  • 96 credit points professional core units
  • 12 credit points BMO5501 Business Ethics and Sustainability; and,
  • 12 credit points BMO7006 Applied Business Project (Capstone); and,

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  4. Exhibit accountability in autonomous and collaborative judgements and innovative strategic thinking in response to emerging business/ accounting challenges in complex contexts
  5. Formulate, implement and evaluate industry-specific investigations to resolve complex professional problems and inform management decision making as a reflective practitioner;
  6. Articulate recommendations and conclusions to specialist and non-specialist audiences including multi-disciplinary teams, diverse cultural communities and business and other professional organisations
  7. Exemplify initiative and inspirational leadership in a contemporary work environment, acting consistently, ethically and socially responsibly to achieve sustainable economic and social goals
  8. Evaluate and execute an evidence-based research project as a capstone activity informing effective accounting practice to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at abstract and practical levels.

 

Entry requirements

You must provide evidence that you have completed an approved English language test, and achieved the result as described below:

  • IELTS (Academic Module): Overall score 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score 79 (section scores no less than: Listening 19, Speaking 19, Reading 18, Writing 22)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score 58-64 (no section score less than 50)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Total score of 176 (no individual band less than 169)
  • VU English - University Preparation UPU (Undergraduate): Achieved
  • English Language School in Sydney (ELSIS)- EAP 2 (advanced): A grade.

Students who do not meet the English language requirements may choose to undertake an intensive English course at the English Language School in Sydney (ELSIS).

Entry into the Master of Professional Accounting requires you to have completed:

  • Bachelor/Honours degree: Successful completion of a non-cognate (any discipline) Bachelor/Honours Degree and a Graduate Certificate in a cognate (similar discipline) field.
    Successful completion of a non-cognate (any discipline) Bachelor/Honours Degree and four years full-time work experience post-graduation including at least 2 of the 4 years full-time work experience gained while working in a dedicated supervisory/management role as approved by the College.
  • International: In addition to satisfying the Bachelor/Honours Degree or Mature Age admission requirements, International Students must provide evidence of proficiency in the English language as demonstrated by: International English Language Testing System or its equivalent - overall score of 6.5 and no individual band score less than 6.
  • Mature: In the absence of a Bachelor/Honours Degree, 7 years full-time work experience including at least 3 of the 7 years full-time work experience gained while working in a dedicated supervisory/management role in business, logistics or supply chain management as approved by the College.
