Achieve your dream of becoming an in-demand IT professional. Our diploma offers a practical, supportive program directly leading into the second year of Bachelor of Information Technology.

Our Diploma of Information Technology has been designed for students taking the first step towards our bachelor degree, and professionals building their current IT knowledge and skills.

We help you prepare for a degree with targeted support and tuition. Over an extended 15-week semester, we’ll work with you to enhance your professional-communication and academic-writing skills.

You’ll also learn up-to-date skills and knowledge for a career in IT, including:

  • networking (CISCO CCENT)
  • designing databases
  • writing computer programs in Python
  • connecting databases to dynamic websites
  • scheduling ICT development using Microsoft Project
  • using Linux (LPI).

Careers

When you graduate, you’ll be qualified for entry-level work in the IT industry, including:

  • computer and network support
  • website development
  • database support.

Course structure

To qualify for the award of Diploma of Information Technology, you must complete a total of 96 credit points.

Semester 1

Semester 2

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • apply a broad body of fundamental knowledge of information technologies in selected areas of study from the areas of:
    • networking
    • ICT management
    • web application development
    • operating systems
    • database.
  • use the latest information technologies, and with self-learning capabilities, solve real-world ICT related problems.
  • exhibit a range interpersonal and academic skills with a strong focus on development practice in an independent or collaborative environment.
  • present foundation technical and theoretical knowledge and skills for industry certifications from reputable international vendors CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-1).

Entry requirements

Applicants for this course will need to have met the academic requirements and prerequisites for this course outlined below.

  • Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent).
    Plus
  • IELTS (or equivalent): Overall score of 5.5 (with no band less than 5.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).

Applicants must be aged 18 or over to be eligible to apply for this course.

English-language requirements

You will need to provide evidence that you have achieved one of the following levels of English-language proficiency:

  • IELTS (Academic module): Overall score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 55. Section scores no less than:
    • Listening: 9
    • Speaking: 16
    • Reading: 10
    • Writing: 18
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 42-49 (no section score less than 40)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 162. No individual band less than 154. 
  • English Language School in Sydney: completion of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 1 with an A grade.
  • IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing your course. 

In some cases, we will accept test results from other methods of examination not listed above.

Pathways & credits
