Victoria University began its life as Footscray Technical School in 1916 when the 'Door of Opportunity' was opened to students from the greater western suburbs of Melbourne.

VU still prides itself on opening that door as the University of Opportunity and Success. We welcome and encourage participation by our alumni community in a wide range of activities, events and programs aimed at ensuring our diverse student population is given every chance to thrive.

Community volunteering

VU has a strong relationship with our community, especially in the Maribyrnong and Brimbank City areas. Every year, students, staff and alumni volunteer a day of their time through V4U to participate in a range of activities that support and strengthens our ties to the local community. This is a great opportunity to get involved in partnership with like-minded members of the VU community.
