VUPA Awards recognise contributions to postgraduate life
As part of the VU Research Festival this week, the Victoria University Postgraduate Association (VUPA) Awards recognise contributions to postgraduate life at VU.
This year four students received the award of “VUPA Outstanding Contribution to Postgraduate Life Award”:
- Paul Bronson, who has been an active member of VUPA for seven years, acting as treasurer, event organiser, liaison with the Student Union and Graduate Research Centre, among many other roles. Paul’s guidance to VUPA and support to postgraduates is noteworthy.
- VUPA’s Vice-President, Parisima (Paris) Nassirnia, who has been a VU Research Ambassador, volunteer host on VU induction days for international students, an event organiser and more. Paris has demonstrated a commitment to VUPA that has helped postgraduate life at VU.
- Wanamina (Nana) Waehama, who grew the International Student Association (ISA) by over 300 students in a single year as the ISA President, and has extended the number of students in leadership positions at VU. Nana was recognised for helping VUPA to produce a better student experience at VU.
- Journalist Niru Tripathi is the VUPA Media Officer, among many other achievements, including support for the Sri Lankan and Nepalese communities, as well as other multicultural organisations. This award recognises her personal contributions and excellence as a postgraduate student.
The Graduate Research Centre was also awarded a prize to recognise their efforts in supporting the Association.
VUPA also hosted the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and Research Training (Research Degree Graduate) Awards, on the same evening.
