Victoria Tourism Industry Council CEO Dianne Smith will mentor students and assist their transition into the tourism and events industry in her new role as Adjunct Professor in Victoria University's School of International Business.
"The tourism and events industry is always reliant upon new talent entering with exciting skills and fresh perspectives in order to reinvigorate our products and services," Ms Smith said.
Ms Smith brings more than 20 years experience working in the industry - both in Melbourne and regional Victoria - in marketing, visitor services, policy and strategy. She said she was keen to help students on their chosen career path.
"It's great to know there are still strong pathways into higher education in Victoria for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in hospitality, events and tourism, and that Victoria University is a major player in providing career-ready graduates to these industries," she said. "My thanks go to Professor Alison Morrison, Head of the School of International Business at Victoria University, for making this happen."
The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) is the peak policy council for the Victorian tourism industry, which represents key industry associations, operators and government agencies, providing one united industry voice.
Prior to starting at VTIC in January 2012, Professor Smith was Manager Tourism Partnerships at Parks Victoria for nine years, and previously worked as Executive Director of Ballarat Tourism and Marketing and Visitor Services Manager at Melbourne Zoo.
