Victoria University Bachelor of Exercise Science (Human Movement) student Liam Adams has collected a second consecutive silver medal representing Australia and University at the World University Cross Country Championships in Kingston Canada, held on the weekend. Liam who also finished runner-up at the 2008 edition of the championships in Mauquenchy, France, claimed the second silver medal of his world university cross country career after covering the 10km course in 30:09.7 to finish behind Japan's Tetsuya Yoroizaka (30:08.4).
Liam at 23 years of age is now a seasoned performer in long-distance and cross-country running and his outstanding achievements have earned him the highest prestige not only at the 2008 Victoria University Sport Awards where he was awarded a Full Blue in Distance Running and named the University's Male Athlete of the Year but also as male athlete of the year at the 2008 Australian University Sport Awards. Australian University Sport (AUS) is the peak governing body of university sport in Australia with 42 member Universities, representing more than one million students.
Other achievements include placing 38th at his fourth IAAF world cross country championships held in Poland, last month leading into this latest performance. Competing at the 2009 World University Games in Serbia in the 5000-metre event, gold and silver medals in the 10000m and 5000m events for VU at the 2008 Australian University Games and gold and silver in the 2008 and 2009 Australian University Distance Running Championships in the10km event, held as part of the Melbourne Marathon.
