A senior level VU delegation recently visited Chile to explore possible bilateral education and research links. During the visit the delegation visited eleven higher education institutions and the Chilean government agencies responsible for research and tourism.
Late in 2008, the Chilean government announced the the Chile Bicentennial Scholarship (BECAS Chile) program which will award 1500 scholarships each year until 2013.
Australia has been allocated 500 of these scholarships, as well as additional places for academic/ scholar exchange. Through this program, the Chilean government is hoping to strengthen its human capital development and improve the scope and quality of higher education, scientific and technological research and innovation.
