Victoria University will be the first Victorian TAFE institution to benefit from a $20,000 grant under the Brumby Government's $370,000 ICT Skills -TAFE Industry Based Learning Program.
Program Manager for the School of Creative Industries (TAFE Multimedia) at Victoria University, Mr Alan Morgans, said they would use the funding to further develop their links with the Design Industry, including the placement of students in ICT positions with new industry partners.
"We will provide more of our students with further opportunities to undertake a work placement in a company as part of their course to improve their job readiness," said Mr Morgans.
"This practical approach to learning is key to ensuring Victoria's competitive advantage in the ICT industry and will further the Universities strategic commitment to Learning in the Workplace."
The new program builds on the highly successful TAFE ICT IBL Development Pilot Program implemented over 2006-2007, which found that students who participate in IBL opportunities gain relevant work experience and are more employable after their IBL experience.
