Michael was appointed Honorary Fellow in August 2025 in recognition of significant service to the University and to maintain a continued association in an advisory capacity.

From January 2018 until August 2025, he served as the founding CEO of VU Online Pty Ltd, a wholly subsidiary of Victoria University that designs, builds and markets quality postgraduate and undergraduate courses delivered to thousands of student.

Joining VU in 2012, for almost five years Michael was General Manager of the University’s ELICOS centre, VU English. In this role he was responsible for the academic, financial and strategic oversight of English language programs to approximately 1,000 annual student enrolments in Melbourne and 3,500 at campuses in Beijing, Shenyang, Kaifeng, Jinan, Chengdu and Huizhou. He also established substantial study abroad programs with Japanese and Korean universities.

Following this, Michael was the Director of Strategic Development working on a range of initiatives to further the University’s mission, including: a university pathways college; a commercial English language proficiency testing centre; and the concept proposal for an online education business.

Michael has over thirty years’ experience in the education sector, including:

  • founding Australia’s largest ELICOS provider, Greenwich College
  • four years on the Board of ASX listed education provider Redhill Education
  • establishing and operating education providers in Japan and Thailand
  • teaching and program management in Australia, Korea, Japan, Thailand and China.
